Mason "Rod Russell" Invitational
Broermann & McKinney Set New 1 Mile Run PR's
5/9/2014 - Results / Dream Mile Results
Mason, OH - On Friday Taylor Broermann & Michelle McKinney traveled south to participate in the always tough Division 1 loaded Mason "Rod Russell" Invitational.
What made this years meet extra special was the addition of the "Angela Bizzarri Dream Mile" named after Masons 8 time State Champion, College All-American and now professional runner Angela Bizzarri.
This meet race was by invitation only and when coach McKinney received the call asking for Michelle and Taylor to participate it was an easy reply of yes. The coaching staff of Mason based their invitations upon the top state ranked milers (all classes combined) - no invitation, no entry.
The race was broken down into three heats based upon state ranking times going from fastest to slowest heats. Michelle ran in heat one and Taylor ran in heat two.
Michelle is currently ranked OH #3 in both the mile and 1600 meter ran in heat one and in her heat was the OH #1, OH #5, OH #8, OH #10, OH #15, OH #27 and 5 other top 30 state ranked milers. Michelle got off to a fast start running in 4th place for the first two laps and then made a strong move at the half mile mark to move into second and close the gap between her an eventual winner Annie Heffernan (St. Ursula Academy) - OH #1. Michelle's second place finishing time of 5:02.45 is a new school record, season best and PR. Great performance Michelle!
In the second heat, Taylor ran a strong 4 laps only to be edged out at the finish line by two runners to finish 4th in her heat and 15th place overall in a new season best and PR time of 5:26.24. Great race Taylor!
Both Michelle & Taylor were excited to get to run in the inaugural "Angela Bizzarri Dream Mile" against many of the top milers in Ohio and made the best of the opportunity. Ladies you represented the Eaton Eagles very well!
Both Michelle and Taylor will next be in action at this weeks SWBL Championship meet @ the Eaton track and field complex. They will both run in the 1600m final on Thursday and the 800m and 4x400 Relay finals on Saturday.
