Representing Team Ohio - Michelle outsprinted Erin McDonald of Team Michigan and a field of 7 others to win the 800 meter title in a time of 2:14.53. Included in the field of 9 All-Stars was the 2014 Ohio D1 800 meter State Champion, Ashley Forte (Thomas Worthington) which finished 4th for Team Ohio. This meet is sponsored by the OATCCC Association and Michelle was only one of 3 seniors chosen from all D1, D2 & D3 athletes to run the 800 meter run and was notified of the selection and honor to represent Team Ohio at the OHSAA State Championships last Saturday. An honor she couldn't say no to! Michelle is only the second Eaton T&F athlete to ever be selected to represent Team Ohio in this meet. The first being Fred Ridder (Shot Put State Champion) of the Class of 1985. Michelle, your performance Saturday made both Eaton and the State of Ohio very proud! McKinney & Reynolds Qualify To State Championships6/1/2014 - Regional Results / State Championship Information
Dayton, OH - The OHSAA Regional Track & Field Championships proved to be very successful, as 4 Eaton athletes made the awards stand and 2 punched their tickets to the OHSAA State Championships this week. Seth Reynolds finished 4th in the 110 meter hurdles regional finals in a new seasonal and personal best time of 15.15. After the preliminaries on Thursday Seth had the 6th fastest time but as is always the case in the regional finals - times don't mean a thing. From start to finish Seth ran a flawless race to edge out the 5th place finisher by .08 one hundredths of a second and claim the 4th place qualifying spot to State. Great job Seth "The Rookie!" Michelle McKinney will be making her 4th straight trip to the OHSAA State Track & Field Championships with an outstanding 1600 meter run (3rd; 5:07.79) & 800 meter run (4th; 2:16.37) State qualifying double. Not only is this one of, if not the toughest double in track and field, it is even harder with 90 degree plus heat and very limited recovery time between races. As one competing schools coach said to coach McKinney - "Michelle is a Beast! That was an incredible double with less than 45 minutes recovery time between races, wow!" Great job Michelle! Taylor Broermann also had and outstanding 1600 meter run final with an 8th place finish in a new seasonal and personal best time of 5:22.46. Going into the race Taylor had the 12th best regional qualifying time, but once again proved that times don't mean a thing at this level, that's why they run the race! Great race and outstanding season Taylor! Seth Wright cleared 13' 6" in the Pole Vault which was good enough for 6th place and the regional awards stand. Great job Seth on an outstanding season and the best thing is you have two more years left. Madison Bowman finished off a very great freshman year with a 13th place finish in the Discus Throw (95' 2"). Keep working hard and the "sky is the limit" for you over the next three years Madison! Friday at the Troy Invite was a great example of just how quickly weather changes in the spring in Ohio. It was 65 degrees and sunny all afternoon until sunset, then it got cold real quick. Unfortunately, that is typical track & field weather and you've got to be prepared by packing for the worst and hoping for the best, either way you'll be ready. When in doubt, put an extra pair of socks, shorts, sweatshirt/pants, tights, gloves and knit cap in your bag. For suggested items to pack refer to the TEAM "Meet Checklist" above. Being prepared helps you stay healthy, warm and enjoy track & field. Warm Weather + Great Competition = Solid Results4/11/2014 - Troy Invitational Results
Troy, OH - Taylor Broermann, Michelle McKinney and Seth Wright each turned in state top ten times and heights to headline an outstanding evening for the eagles track teams at the Troy Invitational on Friday. McKinney claimed the 800m title with a new meet record of 2:16.13 (breaking the old meet record of 2:21.4) which as of Friday ranks OH #1 and US #70 while Broermann finished 4th in the 3200m run in a time of 11:56.05 that ranks her OHD2 #9 and OH #43. On the boys side, Seth Wright cleared an impressive 13' 6" in the Pole Vault to finish second and is currently OH #23 & OHD2 #8 in the state rankings. The eagles teams didn't fair so well in the overall team standings but as coach McKinney said, "We come to Troy to competing against some of the best track & field athletes in the state. It's not about team trophies, its all about our athletes putting forth their best effort regardless of how they place individually and tonight they did just that and the coaching staff is very proud of everyone." In addition to McKinney's win, Wrights 2nd place and Broermann's 4th place, Eaton also got team points from Branson Bennett in the 2000m steeplechase (4th; 7:21.40), Seth Reynolds (4th; 110m Hurdles & 300m Hurdles), Madie Bowman (5th; 31' 3") in the Shot Put, Zavier Spears (5th; 54.06) in the 400m, Brooke Selby (7th; 18.15) 100m Hurdles, Courtney Smith (7th; 52.88) 300m Hurdles and Brandon George (8th; 117' 4") in the Discus. Cold & Windy but Hot Competition & History @ Eaton HS Relays Friday!4/4/2014 - Eaton HS Relays Results
Eaton, OH - Once again Mother Nature was in control as she provided cold temperatures and strong wind gust for Friday's first annual Eaton HS Relays held at the new Eaton Track & Field Complex. Despite the nasty weather the eagles men and women once again put together outstanding performances with the men finishing 1st in a field of 7 teams and the women finishing 2nd in a field of eight teams. Not only was it a successful meet from an individual and team perspective, but it also marked history for the Eaton School district as everyone in attendance witnessed the first Eaton Track Meet ever held under the lights @ the new complex. The eagles will stay busy this week as they participate in the National Trail Blazer Invite on Tuesday and the Troy Invitational (Troy, OH) on Friday. Great job and continued good luck to the varsity track teams. It's Been A Busy Past Few Days for the Eaton JH Track Team4/9/2014 - Eaton JH Invite Results / Eaton JH Relays Results
Eaton, OH - It's been a busy and very successful past few days for the Eaton JH track team as they ran two home meets in the span of 4 days. On Saturday the Eaton Invitational was a day full of sunshine, gusting winds, solid competition and teachable moments as the eagles got their first real test. Seven teams participated with the Eaton girls finishing 5th and the boys team winning with a team total of 122 points over second place Miamisburg which tallied 109.5 points. The boys and girls team kept the momentum rolling as they participated in the Eaton JH Relays on Tuesday evening. The great thing about relay invites is that everyone gets to participate in at least one, if not a couple of different events. It's an opportunity for coaches to give athletes a chance to test different distances and or field events to see how they perform. Bottom line - it's all about having fun and getting everyone involved. The Eaton JH Relays was a much more competitive meet than Saturday, but the Eagles once again did very well as the girls team finished 4th out of 8 teams and the boys finished a strong 3rd with 82 points. The JH team will wrap up the week with a dual meet @ Tri-County North on Thursday and the Preble Shawnee Invite on Friday. Great week thus far and good luck on Thursday and Friday! Eagles Open New Track Complex With A Splash!4/1/2014 - Results / Meet Pictures
Eaton, OH - Monday evening was not only the opening meet of the 2014 outdoor season for the Eagles, but it was also the first official meet at the new Eaton track complex. The meet opened up with one of the most fan pleasing, challenging and for sure wettest event in track and field - the steeplechase and as you can see from the pictures above the eagle runners made a splash! Despite the gusting 30 MPH winds the eagles performances were very good for a season opening meet. Coach McKinney said, "I think this is going to be a really fast track when the weather conditions are nice! However, today both track times and field event performances were hampered by mother nature. We couldn't even pole vault because it was just too dangerous to attempt." However, the greatest aspect of Mondays meet was that every Eagle athlete participated in a variety of events which is what it's all about. This early in the season is a time for the coaches to see who can do what in various events as the big invitationals are just around the corner, which only two Eagles per event can participate. Coach McKinney and staff would also like to once again say THANKS to everyone that helped out with Monday's meet. Without the concession stand workers, finish line timers, exchange zone monitors, announcer, field event measurers, hurdle crew, block movers and any other volunteer this and other meets wouldn't be possible. This week the new complex will continue to be put to good use as the Eagles host two more meets. On Friday, the first annual "Eaton Relays" high school invite will take place followed by the "Eaton Junior High Invitational" on Saturday. So, for anyone that can help please Sign Up to Volunteer today. Help Needed - HS & JH Parents/ Grandparents, Etc.
Our first meet is just around the corner and the coaching staff is preparing for what we believer will be an exciting season. This season we have the honor of opening up a new track & field complex. What an exciting opportunity for our athletes, coaching staff, family members and Eaton Community Schools. We have a very ambitious home meet schedule this season hosting 12 meets - 6 high school & 6 JH.
The track & field program needs your help! We have already contacted some of you personally to help with various meet activities and your response has been great. However, we have a new concession stand this season and need people to help work at the various home meets. We have various financial needs that we hope the concession stand will help us cover this and next season. We are in need of 80 new hurdles, a hurdle cart and a new high jump pit. Our concession stand will help us cover those costs. What we need is for the parents to volunteer to work the various home meets in the concession stand. We ask that the high school parents help cover the junior high meet nights and the junior high school parents help cover the high school meets. If you have the time to sign up for two meets it would help us in more ways than you could imagine. Sign up by going clicking on the Sign Up To Volunteer bar at the top of the website home page. It will then take you to another page which you use to connect to our sign up link hosted by Sign Up Genius. All the meets are listed along with the positions we need to fill in the concession stand. Just follow the directions and sign up online. Coach McKinney will receive a list of those that sign up. If you are unable to sign up online just send a note to school, with your son or daughter, regarding what position and date(s) you may work and Coach McKinney will sign you up! You may also call Coach McKinney at 937-533-3207 if you prefer. Grandparents and other adult family members are welcome to sign up. Arnold Classic "State Qualifier" Indoor Track Meet2/26/2014 - 12:23 AM - Several members of the Eaton Eagles track team will participate in this weekends annual Arnold Classic Indoor Track Meet @ French Field House on the campus of Ohio State University.
The Arnold Classic is one of Ohio's largest and most competitive high school indoor track meets as teams from all across the state travel to Columbus to compete against the best track athletes in D1, D2 and D3. In addition to the competition, what makes this meet extra special is that it's a sanctioned "State Qualifier" for the upcoming OATCCC Indoor State Track & Field Championships to be held on March 8 @ Akron University. The State Indoor Championships consist of only two divisions vs. the typical three for outdoor track with the D1 meet (held in the morning) and a combined D2/D3 meet (held in the afternoon). To qualify for the Indoor State Championships our Eaton athletes must be in the top 16 in the final combined D2/D3 state qualifying performance lists for their particular event(s) which will be published this Sunday evening. Currently, Michelle McKinney is ranked #3 in the D2/D3 800 meter state qualifying performance list and is Eaton's only top 16 ranked performer. However, with strong performances this weekend we could see several Eaton Eagles qualify for the upcoming State Championships. Go Eagles! Michelle McKinney Commits to UK2/5/2014 - 10:43 am - Today Michelle McKinney made it official by signing her National Letter of Intent with the University of Kentucky. Once I visited the campus and met everyone I knew I wanted to be a Wildcat." Congratulations Michelle! McKinney Sets New 800 Meter State Leading Time2/2/2014 Results
Findlay, OH - On Sunday Michelle McKinney won the 800 meter run at the Oiler HS Invite hosted by Findlay University in a time 2:22.09 (OH #1). Going into the race Michelle's goal was to simply run a fast enough time to get ranked in the top 16 in the state and qualify for the upcoming OATCCC Indoor State Championships. Her winning time of 2:22.09 not only accomplished that goal but is also the current #1 state leading 800 meter time in the state. Michelle plans on running at least two more 800 meter races prior to the Indoor State Championships to be held @ Akron University on March 8, 2014. However, the number of races Michelle gets to run in over the next couple of weeks will depend upon how far her basketball team advances in the OHSAA tournament which starts next week. What a great problem to have for the senior. 2014 Indoor Track Season Has Started! The 2014 Indoor track season has started and the outdoor season is just a couple of months away.
